Paula’s Choice 1% retinol is retinol. The Korean eye serum people mean is retinal.
The CLINICAL 1% Retinol Treatment is a leave-on lotion the brand labels at 1% retinol. English “Korean retinol dupe” lists usually land on COSRX oil or Beauty of Joseon Revive. COSRX is the same molecule at 0.5% in an oil. Revive is retinaldehyde. Same family is not the same formula.

The brand page calls it a 1% retinol serum with peptides and vitamin C in a light lotion. The vitamin C on the INCI we checked is tetrahexyldecyl ascorbate. That is not the 15% L-ascorbic acid + vitamin E + ferulic mix on our C E Ferulic page. The peptides are a supporting cast, not the nine named peptides in Protini. We did not independently assay the 1%.
1% Retinol Treatment on Paula’s Choice
There is no Korean 1% retinol lotion
A formula match would need retinol as the lead active at 1%, in a similar leave-on lotion. COSRX’s own retinol guide lists three products: 0.1% cream, 0.3% cream, 0.5% oil. We did not find a 1% COSRX SKU. Other popular Korean “retinols” are either a lower percent or a different vitamin A molecule. Same family is not a dupe.
Same molecule, not the same formula: COSRX The Retinol 0.5 Oil
This is the honest Korean retinol, not a 1% copy. The official INCI starts with squalane, then soybean oil, then retinol at 0.5%. There is no water. The brand tells you to keep it off the eyes and lips, start 2–3 nights a week, and finish the bottle within three months of opening. Official US price was $27 for 20 ml; the single SKU was backordered on cosrx.com when we checked. Ulta had it at $23.50.
Half the labeled retinol in an oil is still retinol. It is not Paula’s Choice’s 1% lotion. COSRX The Retinol 0.1 Cream ($27 / 20 ml) and 0.3 Cream ($29 / 20 ml) are the same molecule again, lower still.

Revive Eye Serum: Ginseng + Retinal
This is the tube “korean retinol alternative” searches often mean. The INCI name is retinal (retinaldehyde), not retinol. On the vitamin A path, retinal sits one conversion closer to retinoic acid than retinol does. That does not let anyone multiply percents. The current US brand page does not print a retinal percentage.
YesStyle’s product copy says “2% retinal liposome complex” and “10% panax ginseng root extract.” A 2% liposome complex is not 2% retinal. The current US official INCI also puts ginseng later than water and glycerin, not in second place — so we do not use the YesStyle dump for order or strength. Niacinamide is on the official list. Palmitoyl tripeptide-5 is on the official list. Shared peptide-ish extras are not a retinol match.
The product is sold as an eye serum. The brand FAQ says it can go on the whole face. COSRX’s 0.5 oil, by contrast, says to avoid the eye area. Those are not interchangeable directions. Official US price: 30 ml at $17 ($15.30 on the sale we saw). YesStyle ranked it #1 in Eye Serums when we checked. This is a different Beauty of Joseon formula from Relief Sun.

What this page is not saying
We are not ranking which retinoid is “better,” converting retinal into retinol equivalents, or offering medical advice. Paula’s Choice also sells a 2% BHA liquid — that is salicylic acid, a different night. Brands on both sides tell pregnant and breastfeeding people to skip retinoids; that is their warning, not a diagnosis. If you want 1% retinol in a lotion, look at 1% retinol lotions. If you want the Korean products the threads name, read the INCI: 0.5% retinol oil, or retinal in an eye serum.
